FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How much space will you need?

I have been known to fit into surprisingly small spaces, but ideally a minimum area of 2m x 3m.

What are your power requirements?

For smaller spaces and ceremonies, I can play either fully acoustic or using a small battery-powered PA system, depending on your personal choice and the requirements of the venue. For larger spaces, I will require 1 x 13 amp socket.

How long do you take to set up?

Around 45-60 minutes, or more if playing in multiple locations, but I’ll arrive in plenty of time and everything will be set up and ready to go in advance of guests arriving.

Do you have your own equipment?

Yes. I travel fully self-contained with all equipment and amplification, as required, and all included in the price.

Can we pick the songs / playlist?

Yes indeed, you can pick all the songs you like from my repertoire and we can work together to create a playlist of your choosing.

Will you learn our special song?

Of course! I love learning new songs and each service I offer gives you at least one free song request. If there are more songs you’re hoping to hear that are not already on my song list, I’ll do my best to interpret and learn them for your big day. If I like the songs and think they would fit nicely into my repertoire for the future (which is often the case), they’re on the house! If not, I’ll learn them for a small additional cost per song. On occasion there are some songs that just don’t work, but almost all do, and I’m happy to give anything a go!

Do we have to choose the songs ourselves?

Not at all. You can be as involved (or not) in the selection process as you like. Song choices can be left entirely up to me if you so wish, or I can learn a little about your musical tastes and create a playlist myself that will (hopefully) be a nice surprise on the day.

Where will you travel?

Anywhere in the UK, and abroad if you wish. Travel to venues within a 30 mile radius of my home in Brighton is free, then I charge 45p per mile thereafter. Depending on the timing of the wedding and location of your venue, I may need to stay over nearby the night before.

Can we see you play live?

I mostly play weddings and private events to which I’m unfortunately not allowed to invite guests, but the videos and audio tracks featured on the website are all recorded ‘as live’ on a single microphone / track, so are a pretty accurate depiction of the quality you can expect on the day. I am also happy to record and send specific video or audio clips on request.

How long do you play for?

I am rarely asked to play for longer than 2 hours in any one session (ceremony, drinks reception, etc) but I am happy to be flexible and open to work with whatever you have planned. If I’m playing a long set or at multiple times throughout your big day, I may need to take the odd short break to rest my voice or use the facilities(!) but I am happy to fill the silence with a specially curated playlist of similarly styled music.

Can I / my friends / my mum sing with you?

Absolutely! I’m open to anything and helping to add those personal touches is what I’m all about! Let me know your ideas and let’s see what we can work out.

What will you wear?

Whatever you want me to! I can be as smart as your wedding guests or adopt a more smart casual look, but will always be presentable. Whatever is required. Even fancy dress, if necessary!

Do you have PAT / PLI?

Yes, my equipment is PAT certified and I have Public Liability Insurance (both required by most venues).

How much will it cost?

From your first contact, with a few simple details I will be able to give you an initial idea, but the final cost depends on a variety of factors – location, set length, services required, song requests, and timings, amongst others. For a quote simply submit an enquiry here with all your thoughts and as much detail as you can, and I’ll be able to put something together for you.

What will you need from us on the day?

A seat with no arms, a bit of space that’s ideally sheltered from the elements (more for my instruments than my own personal wellbeing) and access to some lovely electricity are all I really need. Soft drinks and food are not necessary, but depending on when, and for how long, my services are required, I’m always grateful for a little fuel at the appropriate time.
